sprinter 308 cdi glueh kerzen

Hello alle,

ich habe ein Mercedes Sprinter jahr 2001 mit 308 cdi. Dies is mein erste Mercedes und ich weiss noch nicht sehr viel davon. Mercedes hier in Australia is nicht sehr hilfreich mit auskunft und ich wohne weit weg von grosse stadt mit Mercedes haendler.

Mein frage is, wie schwer is es die gluehkerzen im 308 cdi aus zu wechseln. Ich habe ein problem mit die gluehkerzen lampe kommt an nach starten fuer 30 secunden or so. Ich glaube das ein oder mehrere glueh kerzen sind kaputt.

Es ware sehr grosse hilfe wenn ich ein schritt-bei-schritt anweisung bekommen koennte. Ich ahbe leider nur erfahrung mit japan diesel die sehr einfach sind.

Auch , wenn mir einer sagen koennte wo der abfluss fuer das kuehlmittel is am motor block. Bis jetz is habe es noch nich gefunden.

I am not usually fussing with any mechanical parts on any vehicle, since I do not know what I am looking at or supposed to do with it. But I am not an complete idiot either.Looking at the radiator I could not find an outlet valve either. There are two copper lines connected to rubber hoses with flare fittings. If you disconnected the one that goes into the lower part of the radiator you should be able to drain the coolant.
As for the spark plugs. When you look at the engine block you will see a black plastic cover on top of it with the MB name showing. It has a number of screws in it which can be removed with an allen wrench. Underneath that cover you should find the spark plugs.

when I am talking about sparkplugs I actually was trying to say glowplugs. But you probably figured that out already.Hope you were able to fix your problem.

Hi SprinterUsa,
thanks for your advice. I'm going to tackle it this weekend.
With regards to the coolant drain, I was referring to the coolant drain plug on the engine block. I still haven't found that one. So, if some body knows, please let us know. The coolant is overdue to come out and i don't want part of the old stuff to stay in the block.

I am going to a Sprinter dealer this morning. I will have them show me where that plug is. Will let you know as soon as I get back. And by the way your german is very good.

Hi John,

the Sprinter mechanic said that there is no plug to drain the coolant on the engine block, which is why you have not been able to find one. He said you would have to drain through the radiator and then flush the whole system. Hope this information will help you.
